Italian architects Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas have won a competition to design the $180m Moscow Polytechnic Museum and Educational Centre in Russia.
The 31,403m² centre will be located in the Sparrow Hills district of the Russian capital, near Red Square, which houses several socialist classism buildings.

The building’s design features four pre-oxidised copper-clad elements, which will be linked to each other through internal levels and will appear to have been cut by the wind.
Level one of the building will feature several conference and auditorium rooms and the Science and Technology Center.
The second level of the structure will house exhibition halls, a science/art gallery, an exhibition area of the Museum’s collection, cinema and auditorium.
The third level will include several laboratories, a library, a workshop and the exhibition area of the Science and Technology Museum Center.

By GlobalDataPlans also include a lobby to house various art installations, a cafe, a shop, three winter gardens with a sliding roof and two auditoriums of different sizes with seating capacity for 500 to 800 people.
Sustainable features of the building include three major ‘cuts’, which will allow natural light to enter into the museum.
"The museum and educational centre must become a milestone and reflect the image of the new generation," said Massimiliano Fuksas.
Fuksas will collaborate with Russian studio Speech on the centre, which is expected to be completed in 2017.
