Plans to convert the luxury cruise ship Norwegian Star into a hotel during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, have been cancelled due to poor sales and rising costs.

The ship, dubbed the floating hotel, had been chartered by Edmonton-based Newwest Special Projects.

The luxury liner is owned by Norwegian Cruise Lines and was expected to leave Los Angeles and arrive at Burrard Inlet on 10 February 2010.

The ship was scheduled to be docked at the Kinder Morgan industrial dock in north Vancouver until 2 March.
