UK architectural practice Bond Bryan has completed the gateway building for Newcastle University.
The £22m ($35m) King’s Gate building in Barras Bridge is situated opposite St Thomas’s Green.
The eight-storey glass and sandstone building features staff offices, meeting rooms and social areas.
The four-storey atrium offers interactive workspaces alongside a sky-lit social area, maximising natural daylight into the building.
The atria also acts as a thermal and acoustic link between the offices and the Barras Bridge.
The practice won the contract to design the building following a design competition in 2007, beating Terry Farrell and Partners, Faulkner Brown, Howarth Lichfield and the Howe Partnership.
