Australian practice Whitearchitecture has designed Parklands – a sustainable civic space in Southport on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

The scheme will be host to major sporting and cultural events in Southport.

The structure features a glowing façade with feature lighting and a fractured geometry inspired by surrounding boats and sails.

The civic space includes the Pier Pavilion, which houses a display gallery and visitor centre, an outdoor stage, the Southport Pier, the amenities building and barbeque pavilions.

The building features pathways with seating areas, which offer views of the surrounding Broadwater and Surfers Paradise skyline.

Storm water management, an urban wetland and water polishing system, solar cells for energy efficiency and recycling are some of the sustainable concepts incorporated.
