Lights have been turned on for the first time in the completed Soccer City 2010 stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The 90,000-seat stadium will host the opening and final matches of the FIFA World Cup.

The structure is made from 90,000m³ of concrete, 10,000t of reinforcement steel, nine million bricks and 13,000t of structural steel.

The stadium features a double layer of fabric roof while the facade is made from 32,400 fibre-cement panels.

Construction began in 2007 and took almost 9,980,000h to complete.

The stadium was built by the Grinaker-LTA / Interbeton joint venture.
