The international broadcasting (IBC) and main press centre (MPC) building for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is taking shape.
The IBC / MPC will house over 20,000 press and media personnel during the games and on completion of the games the venue will serve as a business park.
The MPC venue will make use of concrete foundations, while 30,000t of concrete will create the frame and 30,000m² of concrete slabs and 300 concrete columns to create the multistorey car park.
The MPC features a 2,500m² brown roof made of gravel and moss, and has 29,000m² of green office space over four storeys. The building is equipped with new utilities to meet the green building standards.
Carillion is building the IBC / MPC, which secured £355m from the existing Olympic Delivery Authority budget.
The IBC’s frame will be built using 4,500t of steel.
