The Elithis Tower has been unveiled in Dijon, France, and has been dubbed the world’s most environmentally friendly building.

The 54,000ft² tower built by Elithis Engineering in collaboration with architect Jean-Marie Charpentier, produces many fewer greenhouse gas emissions than classic commercial buildings. It also generates more power than it uses.

The outer side of the building is insulated by wood and recycled material to minimise environmental impact.

The building features bay windows and a solar shield, allowing natural light to enter the building, and the roof houses over 330 solar panels to provide power.

Over 1,600 sensors have been installed to measure the building’s energy and emissions levels. Daily energy usage will be posted on a public sign.

The venture is backed by the City of Dijon and ADEME Bourgogne.
