The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Architectural Review Board (ARB) are to freeze current membership rates at 2009.

The decision aims to support architects through the recession, which has hit the profession, both in Britain and across the world, very hard.

RIBA said membership rates would remain at 2009 levels in all membership categories including international and the concessionary rates for all RIBA members.

ARB has confirmed that its retention fee will be the 2009 rate of £86, saying it would reduce its own costs in a bid to make the organisation more efficient.
