Archaos, the national architecture student society and RIBA, have called on the architecture industry to provide minimum pay and conditions for the employment of students.
The joint demands have been put forward in a paper to be published on the Professional Education and Development Resource (PEDR) website, which spelled out the minimum wage for post-part 1 students as £8.56 an hour and £10.27 an hour in central London.
The student society urged the profession to commit to the conditions as part of the chartered practice accreditation scheme, architectsjournal.co.uk reports.
The pair said the existing non-mandatory guidance on fair pay and conditions does not protect working students.
The Association of Professional Studies Advisors had released its own guidance for year-out students, which discourages students working for free.
