Cox Architects has designed Australia’s Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, which will be ready by 2010.
The soccer and rugby arena was inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic dome and will have a bubble like façade illuminated by thousands of LED lights.
The building features a highly engineered exterior structure and other sustainable features such as rainwater collection, natural lighting and natural ventilation.
The bioframe, a lightweight steel design, will utilise 50% less steel.
The triangular shaped panelised façade can be made up of glass, metal and louvres, with a potential for photovoltaic cells.
The stadium will seat 30,000 people and will house a sports medicine facility, with options for administrative offices.
