London’s famous Shakespeare Globe playhouse has started refurbishment works on the new £6m Globe Education and Rehearsal Centre in Southwark, London, UK.

Globe specialist Jon Greenfield and architects Eldridge Smerin have worked on project designs for the Victorian warehouse which will feature a new rehearsal studio replicating the size and shape of the Shakespeare Globe stage, to be built behind the existing façade.

In addition, the centre will house four workshop studios and a public café at ground-floor level.

Durkan will take up the construction work, scheduled to complete in spring 2010.
