The UK’s David Chipperfield Architects has won a contract for the new urban quarter Zukunft Killesberg – Think K – on the Killesberg Hill in Stuttgart, based on a master plan by Ackermann & Raff.

Located on the former site of the city’s trade fair grounds, the urban quarter is adjacent to the State Academy of Art and Design and the Weissenhof Estate.

The design for the seven-storey residential building also includes a two-storey day-care centre that faces the park.

David Chipperfield has designed the residential building to form the northern boundary for the quarter’s square.

The façades of the building are planned in whitewashed brick to link it with the nearby Weissenhof Estate.

David Chipperfield Architects has partnered with the project developer group Fürst Development and the architectural practices Ortner & Ortner Baukunst, B&E Baumschlager-Eberle and Kees Christiaanse Architects & Planners for this project.

Construction is due to start in 2010, with scheduled completion in 2012.
