British-based practice Metaphor has been commissioned to plan exhibition spaces for a new museum quarter in Istanbul, Turkey.

The deal includes projects for part of Istanbul’s year of European Capital of Culture in 2010. It also includes a longer-term framework for the Suri-Sultani area over the next 20 years.

The contract covers the city’s archaeological museum, the Imperial Mint, the church Hadia Irene and the space around the famous tourist attraction the Topkai Palace.

Metaphor has also worked on the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo and 35 new galleries for Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum.
