Russia’s State Hermitage Museum has teamed up with the Rotterdam-based think-tank Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) to develop a “visionary masterplan” for the museum.
The plan will cover the museums global agenda and urban and architectural programming and curatorial strategies, says design and research OMA subsidiary AMO.
Four international seminars will also be held to discuss the project, culminating in the Hermitage 2014 Masterplan, displayed in a final exhibition and publication.
Proposals for the plan – which will begin with the creation of a portrait of the museum – will be centred upon different aspects of the Hermitage including its relationship to St Petersburg, says AMO.
