Pritzker Prize winner Rem Koolhaas is working with Russia’s famous State Hermitage Museum — home to the works of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and more — on a new masterplan for its art displays.
Koolhaas and the Office Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) will work on a number of different proposals with the gallery before coming up with a plan for the curation of the museum’s permanent exhibitions in 2014.

The work will encompass more than the 2,000 rooms and three million artefacts.
The OMA previously worked with the Hermitage on its Hermitage Guggenheim exhibition centre in Las Vegas in 2001 and the extension of its general staff building in St Petersburg in 2003.
The OMA says each design proposal will look at different aspects of the Hermitage, from its global mission, national position and urban situation to its relationship with St Petersburg.
The work will culminate in an international exhibition and four international seminars discussing the central issues of the project.
