The house of Russian avant-garde architect Konstantin Melnikov will soon undergo preservation work in the lead up to becoming a museum, the Russian Avantgarde Foundation says.
The house – built for Melnikov’s family in 1927-1929 – is known as a masterpiece of its time and the group says its main aim is to secure the structure against collapsing into karsts in the area.

The house is made up of two cylindrical towers which intersect for all three stories and was approved for building as a ‘one off’ experimental structure.
Hexagonal windows look out from a range of spherical rooms in a kind of honeycomb structure that is typical Melnikov’s other works, from clubs to garages and more.
