The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami will be remembered by a $9.26m museum in Aceh, to be constructed by Ridwan Kamil, founder and principal of Urbane Indonesia.
The museum will be housed in Banda Aceh, with names of the fallen written into a chimney-like atrium, according to a report by news agency Reuters.

Urbane Indonesia has worked on a range of large-scale projects in the Middle East, China and South East Asia including the Jakarta Stock Exchange and the Pupuk Kaltim Data Centre.
Kamil’s winning design for the memorial museum resembles a traditional Indonesian house on stilts. It will also feature a recreation of the tsunami’s passage and a memorial hall that should be complete by the end of this year.
The new building will be constructed on a hill that will also act as an escape venue in the event of another tsunami.
