One of the world’s largest architectural practices RMJM has merged with Hillier Group, one of the biggest architectural design firms in the United States. Edinburgh-based RMJM bought US group Hillier Group for $30m.

The new firm will be called RMJM Hillier in North America and form the North American business of the RMJM Group. The super-firm will have offices in 16 cities across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and approximately 1,000 design professionals. The firm will boast more than $15bn in construction value of buildings currently under design.

“Never before in the history of architecture have clients had such a global depth of architectural talent to meet their design aspirations,” said Peter Morrison, CEO of the RMJM Group. “The new firm will draw on a skill set from our diverse and experienced professionals that is unmatched and can be perfectly tailored to meet the design needs of our client base.”

RMJM chief executive Peter Morrison will serve as CEO of the newly formed company, while J Robert Hillier, founder and chairman of Hillier, will serve as chairman.

RMJM and Hillier operate in a range of disciplines in the public and private sectors and have been awarded several awards. Their clients have included Gazprom, W Hotels, Cornell University, Princeton University and GlaxoSmithKline.
