The Bullitt Foundation has broken ground at its new Bullitt Center headquarters at 15th Avenue and East Madison Street of Seattle, US.

The 50,000ft² wood-framed building incorporates solar panels that cover the roof, self-imposed limits on building materials and other green features.

The six-storey, mixed-use building will be built to last 250 years, and is designed to adapt to changing needs and emerging technologies.

The project is estimated cost $30m, according to seatletimes.com.

The University of Washington’s Integrated Design Lab, an arm of the architecture department advised Bullitt in choosing the centre’s architect, Miller Hull Partnership, and plans to help monitor and interpret how the building performs once complete.

The construction of new office building is slated for completion in late 2012.
