John Deere has entered into a partnership with HCSS to enhance its construction machinery data communication and analysis system WorkSight.The partnership will also focus on the incorporation of Deere’s JDLink machine monitoring system into HCSS’s software.The partnership was one of the results of the Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP) working with major machine manufacturers to standardise the telematics data available for integration into other applications, known as the Application Programming Interface (API).Liz Quinn, John Deere WorkSight product marketing manager, said: “Our partnership with HCSS empowers customers to leverage the existing telematics connection on their John Deere equipment and see their JDLink machine data in the powerful HCSS tool suite in conjunction with other telematic brands. “In addition, customers will be able to easily link from the HCSS application to the MyJohnDeere.com environment when they need to order parts, manuals, or have a closer look at a John Deere machine in the JDLink Dashboard. Ten Liebherr tower cranes are being used in Russia to construct what will be the Europe’s tallest building.The Lakhta tower, part of the Lahkta Center in St. Petersburg, will be 462m high when completed.The 87-storey building was designed by British architects RMJM and will be home to the head office of energy company Gazprom. The tower will include sports facilities, a children’s technical park, a planetarium, a panoramic restaurant, a viewing terrace and additional office space. Moreover, the project will include the construction of a multi-purpose building featuring a cinema and theatre, among other amenities. Contractor Reinaissance Construction is erecting the Lakhta tower using four Liebherr luffing jib cranes, while the multi-purpose facility is being built with three luffing jib and three high-top cranes — all owned by rental company Sutek.The tower is expected to be complete in 2018.
A joint venture between John Sisk and Lagan Construction is set to commence work on a triple-decker roundabout project in North Tyneside, UK.The £75M project will be delivered for Highways England and includes the lowering of the A19, beneath the existing A1058 Coast Road, and roundabout to minimise congestion. According to Highways England, the project will enhance the drivers’ safety, and provide better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.The scheme will be located on the main route to and from the Tyne Tunnel and will mean that people travelling along the A19 will no longer have to queue at the roundabout to go straight on. Instead, drivers will be able to use a new section of road, which will run under the existing junction.Highways England’s project manager Julie Alexander said: “Once complete, this scheme will improve journey times on the A19 by reducing congestion and improving safety for the thousands of drivers that use this junction each day as well as cyclists and pedestrians.“The A19 is a vital strategic link providing access to the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate, Silverlink Retail Park, Cobalt Business Park and South East Northumberland. During construction we will do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum and ensure that traffic does keep moving.”Construction work is expected to commence in August 2016.
John Holland has been awarded a $324M early works package for Melbourne Metro in Victoria, Australia.John Holland will be responsible for excavating shafts in the centre of Melbourne as part of the preparation works for the tunnel and five new underground stations.The contract will also include the excavation of open shafts adjacent to Swanston Street to enable the underground construction of two new city stations built as part of the $10.9bn project.Excavation of the CBD North Station will include two shafts at Franklin and A’Beckett Street, which will be covered by acoustic sheds to minimise noise for neighbouring residents and offices.According to John Holland, the construction of CBD South will include the partial demolition of the car park underneath City Square.Other works in the package include the relocation and protection of up to 100 utilities, including gas, power and telecommunications services, and the 120-year-old brick main sewer line under the Domain interchange.Works are expected to commence within weeks, with work on the stations’ shafts to begin in 2017, after the completion of the Environment Effects Statement (EES) that is currently underway and the project’s formal planning approval.
Plenary Properties Merced (PPM) has been selected by The University of California, Merced, as the winning bidder for its next phase of the $1.14bn campus development.PPM will design and construct the new facilities as a single, fast-track project and ensure major building systems operate effectively over the 39-year term of the contract.The new facilities will be constructed in a 219-acre site that currently supports the existing campus and its 6,700 students. The four-year project is expected to almost double the physical capacity of the campus by 2020.The project will support Merced’s environmental sustainability objectives, as the campus has been recognized as one of the greenest in the country by the US Green Building Council.Furthermore, the developer will be responsible for raising the required private financing as part of the public-private partnership.Construction is set to commence in September 2016 with the project’s first phase scheduled for delivery in 2018. The remaining facilities are scheduled to be completed in 2020. The project is expected to create over 10,000 construction jobs in the region.
Ground has been broken on the $1.12bn NorthLink WA project to provide a non-stop transport between Morley and Muchea in Western Australia.The project will transform Tonkin Highway into a six-lane freeway between Guildford Road and Reid Highway, with new interchanges at Collier Road and Morley Drive, and a flyover at Benara Road.Other flyovers will be constructed at Beechboro Road North and Marshall Road, with interchanges at Hepburn Avenue, Gnangara Road and The Promenade at Ellenbrook. The first section of the project, which is being delivered by John Holland, includes the construction of the Collier Road and Morley Drive interchanges and the Benara Road flyover.Great Northern Connect, a joint venture between BGC Contracting and Laing O'Rourke Australia Construction, has been selected as the preferred proponent for the next section between Reid Highway and Ellenbrook. The JV will oversee the design and construction of nearly 20km of highway, four interchanges, 14 road bridges and three footbridges. Construction work is expected to commence in early 2017.The overall project will create about 1,000 direct jobs.
Springfield Properties’ plans for phase one of the £1bn Bertha Park mixed-use development in Scotland, UK have received the go-ahead from Perth and Kinross Council.The first phase will include construction of 1,061 new homes, commercial buildings, as well as leisure and recreation areas. Plans also include a new network of roads, and a new secondary school.Springfield Properties managing director Innes Smith said: “Perth is a very attractive place to live and work. Not surprisingly the city is one of the fastest growing places in Scotland. We are committed to enabling that expansion with homes, business and leisure opportunities over the next thirty years. Already we have spent five years developing this plan.”“The plan provides everything a growing community needs. It is important that there are homes for every age and stage. “There will be lots of options to suit all budgets. Homes for sale, homes for private and mid-market rental and homes for rent through housing associations; all are proposed. Many of the homes have been designed especially to suit the site. And all homes are designed to be very energy efficient, keeping bills low for householders.”Bertha Park scheme will be carried out in phases over 30 years, and is anticipated to create more than 2,000 jobs.
John Holland and partner Commercial & General have signed a contract to deliver the new $300M Calvary Adelaide Hospital in Australia.Upon completion, the 12-storey, 350-bed facility is due to become the largest private hospital ever built in South Australia, replacing the existing Calvary Wakefield Hospital.The project will be developed by John Holland and Commercial & General, and leased back to Calvary on a long term contract. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin shortly.John Holland’s CEO Glenn Palin said that the new facility will be 50% larger than the existing hospital, and enable Calvary to meet clinical demand.Palin added: “John Holland is perfectly placed to deliver this vital piece of infrastructure for the people of Adelaide. We have extensive experience in the construction of health facilities, and understand the complexities involved.“We have constructed various hospital facilities around Australia, including the Perth Children’s Hospital, Lismore Base Hospital and the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital. We welcome the chance to continue our work in Adelaide.”Construction on the project is scheduled to begin shortly.
Russian real estate development company LSR Group has begun construction on a new tram network in Krasnogvardeysky, St. Petersburg.The corresponding concession agreement was inked between the government of Saint Petersburg and Transportnaya Kontsessionnaya Kompaniya, a joint venture of LSR Group and Leader Investment Company. The overall project, including the upgrading of existing lines and the construction of a new tram network and its operation over the period of 30 years, is expected to cost RUB32.7bn ($488.6M).In particular, the construction and maintenance of the tram network will require an investment of RUB12.7bn ($189.7M).Construction work is expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2018.
US-based Blackbaud has unveiled plans to construct a new global headquarters on Daniel Island in Berkeley, South Carolina.The $150M project, to be built by Holder Properties, will include a 33,000sq m eco-friendly campus and is expected to create 300 additional jobs over the next five years.Construction work on the project will commence in late 2016 and is anticipated to be complete in two phases. Phase one of the new campus is expected to be complete by 2018.South Carolina governor Nikki Haley said: “Since 1989, Blackbaud has been a terrific member of the South Carolina family, and this new expansion speaks to the company’s commitment to our state and its people.“The 300 new jobs created by this initiative are a milestone, not only for our Lowcountry community, but also for our state as a whole.”
Construction has started on the $750M Greenleigh at Crossroads mixed-use development in Baltimore, Maryland.Greenleigh at Crossroads, part of Baltimore Crossroads development, will feature 1,000 single-family units and townhomes, 500 multifamily homes, three mid-rise Class A commercial office buildings covering 28,000sq m, 12,000sq m of single-storey office space, 11,000sq m of retail and a 120-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott hotel.The project will be delivered by St. John Properties, Somerset Construction Co. and Elm Street Development.St. John Properties has started construction on one of the office buildings, and is set to commence construction on the hotel in late 2016.Elm Street Development will soon commence construction of the single-family homes and townhomes, with models anticipated to be ready in early 2017.Somerset Construction is set to start work on The Berkleigh, a 317-unit luxury apartment community, in late 2016.
UK-based Springfield Properties has received planning approval from Perth and Kinross Council for a 3,000-home community .The £1bn project, named Bertha Park and located in Perth, covers an area of 333ha. Bertha’s first phase, likely to commence in 2017, will be assessed by a committee next month and will include 1,100 new private, affordable and retirement homes. Springfield managing director Innes Smith said: “We are delighted with today’s decision. This is a big step forward in a 30-year project and the result of five years of planning and design in partnerships with Perth and Kinross Council. “We have set our sights on delivering an exceptional place for people to love and work and we are excited to be bringing Springfield’s award winning homes to Perth. We are on track to start building in 2017, initially creating around 450 new jobs and supporting many more.”The development is expected to create more than 2,000 new jobs in the region.
