US-based engineering services firm Bechtel has been awarded a contract by Georgia Power to complete construction of the two-reactor expansion of a nuclear power plant near Augusta, Georgia.
US-based engineering services firm Bechtel has secured two contracts from Carbon Holdings to provide project management services for the Tahrir Petrochemicals Complex and construct two new polypropylene units in Egypt.

Menter Newydd has been selected by Horizon Nuclear Power to build the £14bn Wylfa Newydd nuclear power project in Anglesey, UK.Menter Newydd, a specially created joint venture, includes Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe, Ltd., Bechtel Management Company, Ltd. and JGC Corporation (UK) Ltd. Horizon’s CEO Duncan Hawthorne said: “This is an important step in any large, complex infrastructure project and it adds to Wylfa Newydd’s growing momentum.“The depth and breadth of expertise Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe, Bechtel and JGC bring to the Menter Newydd venture will help us ensure the timely delivery of our project, which will be vital for meeting the UK’s energy gap and boosting the local economy in North Wales for decades to come.“We look forward to working with the team and continuing to make great strides with our plans.” Work on the site is continuing to advance and the UK ABWR remains on track to complete its regulatory generic design assessment by the end of 2017.
Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) has awarded the $3.6bn Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) contract for its Line 6 Expansion Project to International Bechtel. Bechtel was the EPCM contractor for Alba’s Line 4 and 5 expansions.According to the contract, Bechtel will design and construct the sixth potline as well as aiding industrial services. When completed, Line 6 will boost Alba’s single-site aluminium smelter’s production by 540,000 tonnes per annum, taking Alba’s total production capacity to 1.5m tonnes per annum. Alba Board of Directors chairman Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa said: “The appointment of Bechtel is a step forward towards delivering the Line 6 Expansion Project, which is a significant milestone for the Kingdom of Bahrain. Alba and Bechtel have a history that spans over 25 years, and we are confident that Bechtel will deliver excellence at all times.”
