Airport authority Groupe Aéroports de Paris (ADP) has secured a tender from the Government of Bahrain to design and perform supervision work for a new air traffic control (ATC) centre at Bahrain International Airport.

Construction work in Bahrain’s North City is set to start, after receiving AED374M ($101M) in funding from Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD).The country’s new city, also known as Al Madina Al Shamaliya, will eventually house up to 90,000 people in affordable accommodation. The funding will support the start of the land reclamation and the project’s construction work.The AED2.56bn ($696.9M) second phase of the project will follow and will involve construction of the first 2,694 houses.Bahrain minister of housing Basim Bin Yacob Al Hamer said: "We are hugely appreciative of this funding, which will help us [relieve] some of our chronic housing shortages here in Bahrain with the North City project. “I hope that such economic and social development, such as with our new airport, will be a catalyst for national and regional growth."According to the minister of housing, the development forms part of a broader plan to build 40,000 new homes.ADFD director general Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi said: "The North City project is an important project, which will be an economic boost to Bahrain through new construction and opportunities, as well as easing urgent overcrowding issues.”
Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) has awarded the $3.6bn Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) contract for its Line 6 Expansion Project to International Bechtel. Bechtel was the EPCM contractor for Alba’s Line 4 and 5 expansions.According to the contract, Bechtel will design and construct the sixth potline as well as aiding industrial services. When completed, Line 6 will boost Alba’s single-site aluminium smelter’s production by 540,000 tonnes per annum, taking Alba’s total production capacity to 1.5m tonnes per annum. Alba Board of Directors chairman Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa said: “The appointment of Bechtel is a step forward towards delivering the Line 6 Expansion Project, which is a significant milestone for the Kingdom of Bahrain. Alba and Bechtel have a history that spans over 25 years, and we are confident that Bechtel will deliver excellence at all times.”
Japanese engineering services firm JGC has secured a contract worth JPY40bn ($329.9m) to construct a gas processing plant in Bahrain.
Construction work has started on the $1.1bn expansion of Bahrain International Airport, which is expected to boost the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity to 14 million.
