Italian construction firm Salini Impregilo has signed a framework agreement worth $3.9bn to construct a hydropower project in Tajikistan.The firm has been awarded the first lot of the project’s work, valued at $1.95bn, which includes the construction of a 335m-high rockfill dam with a clay core on the Vakhsh River. The dam will be located in Pamir — one of Central Asia's main mountain ranges.The agreement between Salini Impregilo and Rogun Hydropower Project, the state-run company that is coordinating the project, concerns the exploitation of the Pamir’s hydroelectric potential and include four lots. The three remaining lots are seen being assigned to the group by 30 September 2016.Upon completion, the project will include six turbines of 600MW each with a total installed capacity of 3,600MW — the equivalent of three nuclear power plants.
A Salini Impregilo-led consortium has won a $955M contract from Kuwait’s Public Authority for Housing Welfare to build an urban residential development in Kuwait.The contract forms part of the South Al Mutlaa Housing Project and includes the construction of 12,000ha of residential development about 40km northwest of Kuwait City.Upon completion, the project will provide accommodation for 400,000 residents. The project will also see the construction of 150km of roads and related structures, numerous art works, lighting infrastructure, water distribution, rainwater gathering and sewage systems, and other civil works.
Italian construction firm Salini Impregilo has secured a contract worth €2.5bn for the Koyash Dam hydropower project in Ethiopia.The contract, awarded by the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP), will include the construction of a 170m-high rolled compacted dam creating a reservoir volume of 6,000M cubic metres.With an installed capacity of 2,200MW, the facility will generate 6,460GWh of power annually.Salini Impregilo said the new project along with GIBE III, which went into operation recently, and GERD, the Grand Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile will enable Ethiopia to become Africa’s leader in terms of energy production.
A joint venture between Italian infrastructure group Salini Impregilo and Australia's NRW Pty Ltd. has secured a contract worth AUD1.176bn ($898m) from the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia to design, build and maintain the Forrestfield-Airport Link in Perth, Australia.The underground passenger rail line project will connect the eastern suburbs of the city with an existing suburban rail network as well as the airport. It will measure 8.5km in length, of which 8km will be underground.The JV will bore twin tunnels for the entire length of the line and build three stations. Parking spaces and new and expanded bus feeder services will also be built. The rail line will be tunnelled underground from a junction near Bayswater Station, under the Swan River and the airport.Western Australia’s premier Colin Barnett said: "This is a huge milestone on the path to delivering this project, which will change the face of Perth's eastern corridor and give people direct access to the airport by public transport."Early work worth AUD370m ($281m) comprising geotechnical work, contract management and land purchases is already underway. Work at the site is scheduled to begin shortly, and the line is expected to open in 2020.
