Cimic Group company Leighton Asia, through its subsidiary Leighton India Contractors, has secured a contract to deliver the Ten BKC project in Mumbai, India. The 2ha development — to be located in the Bandra Kurla Complex — will feature 40 apartment blocks comprising 937 apartments. Leighton will be responsible for the delivery of structures, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, finishes and external works. The company’s revenue for the project will be AUD140M ($106.6M).Cimic Group executive chairman and CEO Marcelino Fernandez Verdes said: “This is the second premium project we have secured in the Bandra Kurla Complex, demonstrating Leighton Asia’s track record in the high-end building sector.”The project has already started and is expected to be complete in June 2019.

Leighton Contractors Asia in a joint venture with China State Construction Engineering Hong Kong has won an AUD1.58bn ($1.19bn) contract for the construction of Tseung Kwan O—Lam Tin Tunnel in Hong Kong.The contract, awarded by the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, will include the construction of a 2.2km two‐lane highway tunnel together with associated slip roads, branch tunnels, viaducts and tunnel portal facilities.The works will also involve the delivery of two ventilation buildings and an administration building, as well as implementation of all associated building and supporting works.CIMIC Group’s executive chairman and CEO Marcelino Fernández Verdes said: “Delivering large infrastructure projects in busy urban areas is a core capability for Leighton Asia.“We value the opportunity to contribute our civil engineering capabilities to accommodate future growth through the expansion of infrastructure in such a fast growing city.”Leighton Asia’s managing director Manuel Alvarez Munoz said: “Leighton Asia has developed strong working relationships with both our JV partner, China State, and with our client, the Hong Kong government.“Through continued delivery of infrastructure that enhances Hong Kong’s transport systems, we are in a good position for future work.”Construction will begin in July 2016 and take about five years to complete.
Leighton Asia’s subsidiary Leighton India Contractors has signed an AUD223M ($169.5M) contract to deliver phases two and three of a mixed-use development in Mumbai, India.The development, known as Maker Maxity, is located in the Bandra Kurla Complex, and its phases two and three will include the development of retail and hospitality facilities.The scope of the work includes structural and civil works, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, lifts and escalators, façade, finishes and external works for the facilities.Leighton Asia’s managing director Manuel Alvarez Munoz said: "We are delighted to have secured our first major project with the Maker Group, one of India's most prestigious developers."Leighton Asia will bring its international experience, wealth of local knowledge and commitment to safety and quality to facilitate the timely completion of this major project."Work has commenced in June 2016, and is scheduled to be complete in mid‐2019.
A joint venture of Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors has secured a €590M contract to deliver Phase 4B of Cairo Metro Line III in Egypt.Under the contract, awarded by the National Authority for Tunnels, the JV will be responsible for the full scope of the new phase that will stretch 6.1km across a viaduct and five elevated stations.Orascom Construction’s share of the contract is valued at about €295M. Phase 4B follows the group’s previously-announced contract awards for the third line of Cairo Metro.The group is currently executing contracts amounting to about €375M for Phase III and €90M for Phase 4A.
The Femern Link Contractors joint venture has won three conditional contracts for the Femernbelt transport link between Denmark and Germany.The contracts from the Danish government, which have a total value of €3.4bn, include the design and build of what is set to be the world’s longest immersed road and rail tunnel.One of the contracts covers the building of the portal structures, toll buildings, bridges and ramps, while the other two cover the construction of the immersed tunnel and the factory that will manufacture the precast tunnel elements.The tunnel will be 18km long and will connect Denmark’s Lolland Falster region with Germany’s Schleswig Holstein region, shortening the journey between both countries from one hour by ferry or a 160km detour by car to just ten minutes by car or seven minutes by train.The joint venture, which includes VINCI Construction Grands Projects, Per Aarsleff, Royal Bam Group, Solétanche-Bachy International, CFE and Max Bögl Stiftung & Co, is expected to start construction work in January 2018, subject to permits from the German Government.The link will take approximately eight and a half years to complete.
Balfour Beatty Investments has secured financing for the Enterprise Data Centre (EDC) Borden expansion project in Ontario, Canada.The CAD322M ($245.2M) contract has been awarded by the Canadian government to Uptime Infrastructure Partners, a consortium that includes Forum Equity Partners, Walsh Contractors and Balfour Beatty .The consortium will provide the design, construct, finance and facilities management services for a new 10,000sq m data centre located on the Canadian Forces Base. Balfour Beatty Investments and Forum Equity Partners will finance the project, while Walsh Canada will provide construction services.Balfour Beatty Investments Canada senior vice president Chris Arthur said: “This project represents a meaningful win for our organization since this is the first of a potential pipeline of P3 projects for the Canadian Department of National Defence, and a demonstration of continued growth of our business in this key market.“We look forward to working with such a respected group of partners who have a well-established presence in the data centre sector.”Construction is expected to start in June 2016 and the first of four phases of the new facility will be completed in late 2017.
A joint venture between Jacobs Engineering and Aurecon has secured a contract to carry out the engineering design of the AUD5bn ($3,6bn) WestConnex New M5 Project in Australia.The New M5 motorway, the largest section of the WestConnex project, will link to the upgraded King Georges Road Interchange on the existing M5 East Motorway at Beverly Hills and run via twin tunnels to St Peters.The project, which is being delivered by the CPB Contractors-Dragados-Samsung joint venture, is set to double the M5 East corridor’s capacity, improving travel times and reliability for the 100,000 motorists that use the route daily.Three-dimensional design and building information management (BIM) systems are being implemented to design and document elements of the project in order to assist with the coordination and integration of design with other parties.Jacobs’ senior vice president of buildings and infrastructure Patrick Hill said: “We are very proud to be contributing to such a globally significant project, one that is set to have a positive impact on Sydney’s road network for many years to come.”
