Construction work has started on Sound Transit’s Northgate light rail station, one of three stations set to open in 2021 with the completion of the Northgate Link Extension.Sound Transit has awarded the $174M contract to Absher Construction Company in August 2016. The scope of the work includes the construction of an elevated station at Northgate, a guideway and a parking garage with 450 stalls for transit users.It will also involve the construction of a transit island, located below the south end of the station platform between Northeast 100th and Northeast 103rd Streets, for convenient light rail and bus connections.According to Sound Transit, trains traveling in the 5.6km twin tunnels north to and from the University of Washington station at Husky Stadium will stop at underground stations in the U District and Roosevelt neighborhoods, exit the tunnels at First Avenue Northeast and Northeast 95th and transition to a 1.3km elevated guideway to reach the new station.Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff [speaker in the photo] said: "Within a few years this station will enable many thousands more riders each day to take advantage of fast and reliable travel through some of the most congestion-choked areas of our region."The $1.9bn Northgate Link project extends light rail 6.9km north from the University of Washington to a station next to the King County Northgate Transit Center.

Upon completion, the project will connect townships such as Port Klang, ITT (Integrated Transport Terminal) Gombak, Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Baru and Tumpat.The rail line, financed by the Export-Import Bank of China, will be delivered in phases. Construction work is expected to commence in early 2017 and be completed in 2022.

Absher Construction Company has been awarded a $174M contract by Sound Transit for the construction of Northgate railway station in Seattle, Washington.The scope of the contract will include the construction of an elevated station at Northgate, a parking garage with 450 stalls for transit users, and a transit island for light rail and bus connections.Construction work on the project is set to be complete in 2020, while construction work on underground stations in the Roosevelt and U District neighbourhoods will commence in 2017.Once service opens in 2021, the Northgate station will serve as the northern terminus for light rail until Lynnwood Link opens in 2023.The station is part of the $1.9bn Northgate Link extension project, which extends light rail 6.9km north from the University of Washington to a station next to the King County Northgate Transit Center.
A joint venture of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and George Kent (Malaysia) has secured a work package for the Mass Rapid Transit Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line in Malaysia.The work package, known as Package SSP- SY-204, has been awarded by Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) and is valued at MYR1.01bn ($250M).Under the contract, the joint venture will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of track works, maintenance vehicles and work trains. MRT Corp CEO Shahril Mokhtar said: “CCCC comes with very good technical know-how having handled many infrastructure projects, including railway construction. “Its joint venture with Malaysian company George Kent, which now has a strong presence in the railway industry in Malaysia, allows the MRT Project to benefit from the experience of these two very strong companies.”
Abu Dhabi-based National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Gujarat, India.Under the $316M contract, NMDC will be responsible for the land reclamation activities, and the construction of breakwaters, jetties and associated facilities.The project — part of the company’s plan to expand its operational footprint into Asia — will also include massive dredging and marine infrastructure works. Mobilisation of the equipment to the working site will start in the post-monsoon 2016 period.
Kraus-Anderson Construction Company has secured a contract to remodel and expand the high school and middle school for the Hudson School District in Hudson, Wisconsin.The scope of the contract will include the construction of a two-storey classroom and gymnasium at the middle school.Work will also involve additions and upgrades to the high school, including seating, lighting and sound upgrades, as well as a new athletic stadium.The project has been designed by Bray Architects and will entail an investment of $93.9M. Kraus-Anderson’s project manager Gary Zifko said: “The expansion will greatly enhance Hudson schools and become an even bigger asset for the community.”Construction work on the middle school is expected to commence in the end of 2016, and will be completed in June 2017. Work on the high school is slated to begin in April 2017, and be finished by mid-2019.“As we proceed to work on the Hudson schools — while students, teachers and staff are at work — it will continue to be our highest priority to put safety and security first, with as little disruption as possible,” Zifko added.Hudson Middle School serves nearly 1,300 students, while Hudson High School caters about 1,800 students.
