Finnish construction company YIT and the City of Järvenpää have secured approval from the Järvenpää City Council for the development of Perhelä area in Finland.

The council has approved a set of contracts regarding the Perhelä block.

Based on the contract and the reference plan, the zoning process for the Perhelä project is expected to begin in early 2020.

Located in the heart of Järvenpää, Finland, the Perhelä block will comprise a 20-storey building, two apartment buildings, 300 apartments, and office and retail space.

As part of the contract, the City of Järvenpää will sell the Perhelä block to YIT for €10m ($11m).

YIT housing executive vice president for Häme and Southeast Finland Sami Viitanen said: “The core of YIT’s business model and our growth engine is responsible, customer-oriented urban development as well as the ability to develop demanding projects that involve responsibility for planning.

“The joint planning concerning the Perhelä project went smoothly, and we would like to give credit for this to the City of Järvenpää.”

The Järvenpää City Council has approved the contract on the basic principles of construction, changes in the local detailed plan and the schedule.

Järvenpää economic affairs director Olli Keto-Tokoi said: “This is an extremely important milestone for the development of the entire centre of Järvenpää.

“This project has progressed in different phases for more than two decades.

“The development of the centre is a challenging puzzle, in which different pieces must fall into their places at the right time.

“We have worked with YIT nonstop for the past year and the joint planning has created an end result for which we, the city, can be extremely pleased.”

Construction on the project is expected to begin in early 2021 after receiving the building permissions and the local plan becomes legally valid.

YIT is claimed to be the largest Finnish and significant North European construction company that develops and constructs apartments.
