White Plains Hospital (WPH) has broken ground on new $272m Outpatient Care Center for advanced medicine and surgery in New York, US.

The new 252,000ft², nine-storey centre is being constructed at the corner of Maple and Longview Avenues, adjacent and connected to both the main Hospital and the Center for Cancer Care.

The facility forms part of the hospital’s on-going campus transformation, which also included extensive campus modernisation and renovation, such as the expanded Center for Cancer Care, completed in 2016, and the new lobby and inpatient tower which was completed in 2015.

Montefiore Medicine president and CEO Steven Safyer said: “This new location represents the very best Montefiore has to offer, passionate physicians, who are leaders in their fields with access to cutting-edge research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, backed by the most modern technology available today.”

The new advanced centre will comprise new operating rooms, endoscopy suites, latest imaging, and wound care delivered through hyperbaric chambers.

It will also house specialty physician practices including orthopaedics, spine, maternal fetal medicine, neurosurgery, and a Heart and Vascular Center.

White Plains Hospital president and CEO Susan Fox said: “The new center is an exciting step in White Plains Hospital’s transformation into the leading tertiary care hub for patients in Westchester County and beyond.

“Inside, we will deliver a seamless patient experience and offer ease and convenience for accessing additional advanced ambulatory services and procedures.”

White Plains Hospital said that the new campus is designed in line with the principles of sustainable construction to support energy efficiency, water efficiency, light pollution reduction, and indoor air quality.

Additionally, the building features a robust IT infrastructure to facilitate current and future medical technology, such as telemedicine.

The intelligent infrastructure of the centre will support automatic building management, energy efficiency through technology and real-time data collection, White Plains Hospital noted.
