Watpac wins $63m order to build NSW Coroner’s Court facility

Australian construction firm Watpac has won a $63m contract to construct a new NSW Forensic Pathology and Coroner’s Court facility for Health Infrastructure at Lidcombe in Western Sydney, Australia.

The project will be executed by collaboration between NSW Health and NSW Department of Justice.

The three-storey building includes identification and waiting rooms, counselling rooms, a mortuary and laboratories on the ground floor; conference rooms, court registry, administration rooms and offices on the first floor; and the Coroner’s suites and courtrooms on the second floor.

Work on the project is anticipated soon with the facility anticipated to be operational by 2019. The project is expected to create 225 construction jobs.

Watpac Construction New South Wales state manager, John Koerner, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded the contract to build the new NSW Forensic Pathology and Coroner’s Court facility for Health Infrastructure.

“Watpac has a strong and valued relationship with the NSW Government having delivered a number of their health facilities on the mid -north coast.

“This latest contract is an endorsement of our experience in delivering world-class health and science infrastructure nationally such as the hospitals in Port Macquarie and Kempsey, the Translational Research Institute in Queensland and numerous aged -care facilities underway in Victoria.”
