Australian construction firm Watpac has been selected as the preferred builder by the Australian Unity to deliver the $1.1bn Herston Quarter project in Brisbane, Australia.


This selection follows the recent announcement of Australian Unity — a healthcare, financial services, and independent and assisted living organisation — as the preferred tenderer for the project by the Queensland government.

The development — located next to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital — will include the construction of a public rehabilitation hospital, a private hospital, residential aged care, retirement living and student accommodation.

It will also feature health research, childcare, a co-working hub, and education and training facilities.

The first stage of works is expected to begin in 2017.
