WCN Editorial Team 19 Oct 2016 EUROPE TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

Vinci subsidiary Eurovia has secured the eight works packages of the second phase of the tramway upgrade project in Košice, Slovakia.

This new contract, worth nearly €80M, follows on from the first phase of works completed by Eurovia between April and October 2015.

Phase II will involve the rehabilitation of the 33km network, including 15 urban and suburban lines, and the acquisition of new rolling stock. The rails will be entirely replaced and the utility networks affected will be re-routed.

The project will also include the modernisation of electrical equipment, signalling, lighting and all tramway and bus platforms, as well as the installation of new information systems and a CCTV monitoring system.

Work on the project will commence at the end of 2016 and take two years to complete.
