The University of Liverpool set to unveil a £1bn masterplan strategy for its campuses in the city centre and at Leahurst in Cheshire.

A 15-year masterplan, which was drawn up by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, will be unveiled for public consultation at the end of the month.

The masterplan proposes introducing a new central green on the Liverpool campus including plans to “revitalise” existing courtyards.

The plan involves several building projects that have been recently announced, such as the Digital Innovation Facility and the Arts and Humanities Centre. The two facilities are due to commence construction this year.

It also includes a range of proposed new builds and redevelopment projects to improve teaching, research and impact and student life space on the campuses.

The University vice-chancellor Dame Janet Beer said: “We are proud of our place in the City and of our architectural heritage. Our plans are sensitive to this and provide exciting new opportunities to further enhance the appearance of our campuses and their surroundings.

“Whilst our estate already boasts some world-class facilities and wonderful spaces, we need continued investment to best support our ambitious future plans.

"This Masterplan provides an exciting, clear and coherent vision for our university campuses and includes significant investment which will have a number of positive regional impacts, not least on the economy."

Additionally, the masterplan proposes to invest in sustainable travel options and has plans to improve accessibility and further promote equality, diversity and inclusivity on campus.

The university is also planning to make a significant investment at its Leahurst campus, which is home to the Veterinary Institute, for the development of equine care, expanded research facilities and a redeveloped student skills zone.

As part of the masterplan, the University intends to remove small, disparate car parks in the centre of the Liverpool campus and replace them with three multi-storey car parks.
