Qatar Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani unveiled the Gewan project at Cityscape Qatar 2018.

Gewan Island derives its name from the full-round, pink-tinted pearl. Covering 400,000m², the island will support a mix of property types, catering to different accommodation and investment needs.

SNC-Lavalin’s Faithful+Gould business has been chosen to provide project management services for Gewan Island development.

Under the contract, Faithful+Gould will implement the delivery strategy and programme for Gewan Island. It will work with all stakeholders to plan for earliest possible completion, along with procurement and management of consultants and contractors.

Dar Al-Handasah’s scope of services will include master planning and infrastructure, as well as buildings architectural and engineering design services.

It will also cover environmental impact study, traffic impact study and preparation of tender documents.

Middle East Dredging Company (MEDCO) has signed a contract for the execution of marine works, including marine dredging and reclamation, construction of sand beaches, shore protection rock revetments, breakwaters, and quay walls for Gewan Island.

Construction works will commence in May 2018 and continue for a year-and-a-half.

Gewan Island has been designed as an extension to The Pearl-Qatar. It will feature a theme park, an air-conditioned outdoor ‘Crystal’ boardwalk, a green park and a waterfront retail esplanade.

The island will feature apartments, waterfront and beachfront villas, six modern island villas, retail outlets, entertainment facilities, a sports club and a mosque.
