Interserve’s construction joint venture Khansaheb has secured an £81M contract from Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) to expand and upgrade the City Centre Ajman mall in the UAE.

Khansaheb will be responsible for doubling the size of the existing mall from 32,000sq m to 70,000sq m, expanding a number of retail units and building a new car park — creating 2,400 parking spaces.

The project will also include the addition of new mechanical and electrical installations to serve the expanded mall, and the creation of new walkways, food courts, offices and a children’s entertainment venue.

Furthermore, the contract includes exterior landscaping work and the re-configuration of access roads leading to the mall.

Khansaheb general manager Steve Flint said: “This contract win demonstrates Majid Al Futtaim Group’s ongoing confidence in Khansaheb’s capabilities in the retail sector, as it closely follows the successful expansion of Dubai’s premier shopping centre, Mall of the Emirates.”

The project will be executed in a number of phases to enable the existing mall and facilities to remain fully functional and open to the public. Construction work has started and is scheduled for completion in July 2018.
