Tutor Perini/O&G Joint Venture has received a notice of intent from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the award of a $1.4bn contract for the Purple Line Extension Section 3 Stations project.
The scope of work includes the design and construction of two new subway stations at Westwood/UCLA and Westwood/Veteran Administration (VA) Hospital.
Currently, the company is performing initial design work on the companion Purple Line Extension Section 3 Tunnels project, which was awarded in 2018.
Under this contract, the company will build the tunnels and related systems that will connect with the new Westwood/UCLA and Westwood/VA Hospital stations.
The contract value will be included in the company’s first quarter 2019 backlog.
In July 2018, the Frontier-Kemper/Tutor Perini Joint Venture has won a $410m contract for the Purple Line Extension Section 3 Tunnels project.
The project involves the design and construction of twin bored tunnels for the Purple Line subway service spanning 2.6 miles between Century City and the VA Hospital in Westwood.
The subway extension is expected to provide a high-capacity, high-speed and reliable transit alternative for those travelling to and from Los Angeles’ Westside.
Majority of the work is likely to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022.
In June 2018, US-based civil, building and specialty construction company Tutor Perini had said that its joint venture company with Frontier-Kemper received a notice of intent to award a $410m contract from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the Purple Line Extension Section 3 Tunnels project.
At that time, Tutor Perini said it was working on the Purple Line Extension Section 2 project, which includes tunnelling and construction of new stations in Beverly Hills and Century City.
Earlier, the company had constructed major portions of Los Angeles’ Red Line subway and San Francisco’s Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system.
Tutor Perini said that it is also working on San Francisco’s Central Subway extension to Chinatown; California’s High-Speed Rail system, which will connect San Francisco and Los Angeles; New York’s East Side Access project; and Washington State’s Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement project.
Tutor Perini offers diversified general contracting and design-build services to private clients and public agencies across the globe.
