UK-based construction and project management consultancy Turner & Townsend has been appointed by Vicinity Centres to manage the retail delivery of its AUD350M ($264M) Chadstone Shopping Centre redevelopment in Melbourne, Australia.
The project will include the construction of a new entertainment precinct, which will include a Hoyts digital cinema complex with 13 screens, a revamped west mall with luxury and international fashion retailers and a new Target store.
The redevelopment will increase the centre’s area by 25,000sq m and feature about 570 stores upon completion.
Turner & Townsend Thinc director James Coffey said: “Billions of dollars are being spent on major shopping centre redevelopment projects across Melbourne. We are delighted to be working on this prestige iconic project, which is one of the largest shopping centres in the Southern Hemisphere.
“Three of its flagship tenancies including H&M, Zara and Uniqlo, plus two mini major tenancies — Rebel and JBHiFi — will be managed by our tenancy delivery team. This redevelopment will further enrich Chadstone Shopping Centre as a distinctive and unrivalled retail and community destination.”
The Chadstone Shopping Centre expansion project is scheduled to be complete in mid-2017, with the first stage set to open in October 2016.
