Tekfen Construction, a subsidiary of Turkey-based Tekfen Holding, has bagged QAR729.6m ($200m) contract to build a highway in eastern Qatar.

The highway construction contract for Eastern Industrial Road, which was awarded by the Qatari Public Works Directorate, is scheduled to be completed over a period of 27 months.

The project includes 2.5km of highway with two viaducts. With the latest contract, Tekfen’s ongoing projects in Qatar increase to four.

The ongoing projects of the company in Qatar reached a value of $2.5bn.

The latest road contract comes after last year’s success in winning the $2.1bn Al Khor expressway. Tekfen took this 34km, 10-lane highway on a turnkey basis with a construction period of 36 months.

Earlier in February, the company also bagged another turnkey project to build a $342m, 40,000-seat Al Thumama Stadium for the 2022 World Cup finals. Tekfen is working on this project as part of a joint venture (JV) with Qatar’s Al Jaber Engineering.
