A design-build team of Hensel Phelps/Mithun has been selected by the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) to deliver the second phase of the $142M student housing project in California, US.
The Nuevo West Graduate Student Housing project will cover 41,063 sq m and feature more than 880 beds across two main buildings.
It will also include 1,350 parking stalls, outdoor gathering spaces, a café, and social amenity spaces. Phase 2 will be developed next to the Phase 1 project — Mesa Nueva Graduate Student Housing — which is currently in construction and is expected to be complete in 2017.
Hensel Phelps’ operations manager Nick Trammer said: "We take pride in being part of the San Diego and La Jolla communities, and we love working on the UC San Diego campus.
"The people representing housing, dining and hospitality, and facilities design and construction are truly talented individuals and are a pleasure to have as clients. I feel very fortunate to be able to extend that working relationship for another few years."
The project, aiming to achieve the LEED Gold rating, is anticipated to be complete in 2019.
