Real estate investment trust Taubman Centers has revealed a $500m renovation of Beverly Center, an iconic shopping destination located in the heart of Los Angeles, US.
The new Beverly Center features expanded luxury and contemporary fashion, destination dining, studio/concierge services, and open spaces.
The project focused on creating a bright, contemporary exterior that connects the centre to the neighbourhood, bringing in ample natural light, elevating the retail line-up, adding several dining options and ensuring easy access and parking.
The construction was carried out in three phases and Beverly Center remained open during all the phases.
Studio Fuksas of Italy was selected as the design architect for the reimagination of the 886,000ft² centre.
The new features included a 25,000ft², curving, skylight ribbon of glass that triples the amount of skylight in the centre; new and expanded floor openings to allow sunlight to reach all floors; special lighting within the floor openings and valet entrances; and undulating white exterior that features a modern metal mesh façade.
Other features include a streetscape with drought-resistant greenery; a new Grand Court gathering space; a modern M4 camera-based smart parking system by Park Assist at the four-level, 3,000 space garage; and an additional valet off West 3rd Street.
The Webster, an 11,000ft² high-end designer flagship boutique, will be established at the corner of Beverly and San Vicente Blvds, in 2020.
Beverly Center has brought together a line-up of nine full-service and fast-casual restaurants at the street level and each of these can be accessed via entrances on La Cienega or the new 3rd Street Valet.
Art Installations include a 35ft Grand Court digital LED screen that showcases the first, solo and permanent LA installation of media artist, designer and spatial thinker Refik Anadol; and selected works by undergraduate students in partnership with Anadol and UCLA Design Media Arts.
Beverly Center also offers a VIP Room Service for members and virtual concierge services powered by London-based luxury leader Quintessentially.
