Sunshine Plaza, a regional shopping centre in Queensland, Australia and is managed by Lend Lease, has secured development application approval for a high ropes adventure course as part of its redevelopment.

Upon completion in mid-2019, Sunshine Plaza will feature the first outdoor high ropes course at a major regional shopping centre in the country and is touted to become the world’s largest ropes course on poles.

It will also include a 22m high viewing deck, 150 challenges, and 16 zip lines, with the longest one at 130m across Cornmeal Creek.

Adventure high ropes specialist, Trees Adventure will design and operate the high ropes course, providing 1, 2 or 3-hour experiences. The courses cater for the children above six years, with a broad range of activities and challenges.

The stage one of the development retail will open on 15 November 2018, unveiling a fully revamped Myer and a range of exciting new brands such as Harry Hartog, Tigerlily, T2, Politix, Secrets, Charcoal and Bras N Things.

Lendlease managing director of retail, Gary Horwitz, said: “Visitors to Sunshine Plaza will want to spend the entire day here, enjoying the breadth of experiences we have to offer – the best shopping, dining, entertainment, and adventure options.

“The future of retail will not just be about shopping, we must be innovative and offer customers a range of experiences in one great place.

“The high ropes course will add another dimension to the new Cornmeal Creek casual dining and entertainment precinct, ensuring Sunshine Plaza remains a must - visit destination among locals and tourists alike.”

Trees Adventure managing director Nicolas Dansin said: “Once the attraction is built, Sunshine Plaza will be home to the world’s largest ropes course on poles. With something for every level of fitness, our course will allow everyone to experience a unique, world-first attraction on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.

“We’ll also be offering pre-booked drop-off sessions for kids, so parents can shop while the kids are challenging themselves away from screens.”
