Suez wins wastewater, waste management contracts in China

Suez NWS, through its joint venture Jiangsu Sino French Water, has won a €413m concession contract to build a wastewater treatment plant and operate the plant and the sewer network in Chengdong area, Changshu in China for a period of 30 years.

Jiangsu Sino French Water is a joint venture between Changshu Urban Construction Public Assets Management, Changshu Jiangnan Water and Suez NWS.

Suez NWS has also won an operation and maintenance (O&M) contract for the waste treatment plant in the Jianghe Tianrong area.

The group has been present in Changshu since 2006, where it is involved in the supply of drinking water and the treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater.

Jiangsu Sino French Water will be responsible for the investment, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant of Chengdong district, as well as the operation and maintenance of the sewage network and pump stations.

Phase I of construction will commence in 2018 and be operational by 2021 with a capacity of 60,000m³ per day. Under Phase 2, the capacity of the plant will be doubled to reach 120,000m³ per day by 2023.

The local government intends to increase the wastewater treatment capacities and improve sanitation services in Changshu.

Through Changshu Suez NWS Environmental Management, a joint venture between Suez NWS and Changshu Water Investment and Development, Suez NWS has also won an O&M contract of a waste treatment plant,with a daily capacity of more than 2,000 tonnes, in the Jianghe Tianrong area.

The joint venture is in charge of the transfer and disposal of construction and demolition waste, industrial waste and domestic waste produced in Jianghe Tianrong.

Changshu Suez NWS Environmental Management will prepare the construction and demolition waste for reuse to meet the reutilisation rate over 70% set by the city of Changshu.

Suez NWS has been active in Changshu since 2006 through Jiangsu Sino French Water that has already invested RMB 1.5 billion ($218m) in drinking water supply and the treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater.
