Strategic Property Partners breaks ground on office tower in Florida, US

Strategic Property Partners (SPP) has commenced construction on 1001 Water Street, the new trophy office tower in downtown, Tampa in the US state of Florida.

Said to be the city's first trophy office tower in downtown in almost three decades, 1001 Water Street is expected to support strong economic growth.

SPP CEO James Nozar said: "The start of construction at 1001 Water Street signifies the beginning of a new chapter for workplaces. It is not just the first new trophy office tower in Tampa in decades, but the first office of its kind.

"We are seeking to reimagine the workplace, where employees, their experiences, and overall wellbeing are at the heart of the design and functionality of the space."

The sustainably designed 20-storey, mixed-use 1001 Water Street is scheduled to be completed in late summer 2021.It will be WELL Core and Shell certified as well as LEED certified.

Designed by COOKFOX Architects, the building will have approximately 380,000ft² of office space and retail space.

The 1001 Water Street will have access to daylight and vegetation, including an expansive rooftop terrace while its nine double-height exterior terraces will embellish the building's façade.

Additional features of the 1001 Water Street include outdoor space via a public plaza that connects it to the adjacent University of South Florida's Morsani College of Medicine.

SPP corporate leasing and strategy executive vice-president David Bevirt said: "Tampa is experiencing an incredible boom in population and job growth.

 "We saw a tremendous opportunity to support the city's growth and provide cutting-edge office space along with the lifestyle and amenities-driven experience that businesses and employees are looking for within the Tampa Bay area today."

Leasing efforts for 1001 Water Street is being managed by commercial real estate services firm JLL, while Coastal Construction is constructing the office tower.

1001 Water Street is being built as part of the 56-acre Water Street Tampa development, a multi-phased, mixed-use community.

The Water Street Tampa will include more than nine million ft² of commercial, residential, hospitality, educational, entertainment, cultural and retail space.
