A consortium comprising Strabag, a subsidiary of European construction group Strabag, M-Silnice and SMP CZ, has won a CZK3.38bn (€132m) contract for a new section of the D35 motorway in the Czech Republic.
The contract involves the construction of a new four-lane connection with two interchanges on the Opatovice-Časy section with a length of 12.6km.
Work includes the construction of 25 bridge structures – seven bridges will cross above the motorway, and the remaining 18 will form part of the carriageway.
The most significant bridge is a 1,060m overpass across the River Elbe and its floodplain area. Seven noise abatement walls also form part of the contract.
Work is expected to commence in 2019 and last 44 months from the start of construction.
Strabag, the leader of the consortium, will have a 42%share in the contract.
Strabag CEO Thomas Birtel said: “As the market leader in the Czech Republic, we are very pleased to be able to bring our know-how into yet another project.”
The D35 in the Czech motorway network is part of the northern route linking Bohemia and Moravia that is intended to serve as an alternative to the D1 motorway.
Earlier in December 2018, a consortium comprising Strabag, Metrostav and Eurovia, secured a CZK1.88bn (€72.7m) contract for the modernisation of the D1 motorway in the Czech Republic. The consortium is led by Strabag.
The contract involves the complete renewal of the cement concrete surface of the D1 motorway between Velký Beranov and Měřín over a length of 14.8km. Work is scheduled to be completed within three years.
The project commences with temporary widening of the motorway in the direction of Prague to enable the full renovation of the road surface in the direction of Brno.
Initially, the roadway will be removed, sub-layers will be recycled, and the new surfacing will be laid. Later, the consortium will take up the renewal of the roadway in the direction of Prague.
Work comprises repair and demolition, upgrade of 10 motorway bridges, demolition and reconstruction of a motorway overpass and the construction of a new animal overpass. The project also involves the demolition and new construction of noise barriers.
