Zublin, a subsidiary of Strabag, has won a €85m contract from Sonnenhofe, a joint venture of Eyemaxx and DIE Deutsche Immobilien Entwicklungs, for the turnkey construction of 18 four- to five-storey buildings in Neu-Schonefeld near Berlin, Germany.

The project will be built on a 51,100m2 site at Neu-Schonefeld north of the future Berlin Brandenburg Airport.

Designed by Blumers Architekten of Berlin, Sonnenhofe im Sternenviertel project involves the construction of 559 rental apartments with a total living space of 38,000m2.

The apartment houses will be built around three green courtyards and playgrounds.

The contract includes the construction of two underground car parks.

Zublin subdivision Nord will begin work on the site in February 2018. Overall completion of the project is scheduled for August 2021.

Zublin will also build two office complexes to the west of Sonnenhofe with a total of 10,730m2 of usable space.

Commercial space will also be provided in the ground floor of several apartment buildings.

Zublin and DIE Deutsche Immobilien Entwicklungs are already jointly working on the Theodor-Fontane-Hofe project, also in Neu-Schonefeld.

Zublin, with Sonnenhofe, has secured this as a follow-up contract, which is valued at €41m.

At the Theodor-Fontane-Hofe site, located to the north of Berlin Brandenburg Airport, Zublin is building 12 multi-family units with a total of 334 apartments, one underground car park with 145 parking spaces, and 190 outside parking spaces.

The project comprises three identical courtyard ensembles with four buildings each, connected by an underground car park. The apartments at Theodor-Fontane-Hofe will be ready for occupancy by the end of 2019.

Zublin Nord technical subdivision manager Jens Quade said: “We are delighted by our client’s trust in the partnership to lead another demanding project to success.”

Zublin is executing Sonnenhofe and Theodor-Fontane-Hofe as a general contractor under its team-concept partnering scheme, which focuses on the early inclusion of all project participants.
