Ed. Züblin, a subsidiary of European construction group Strabag, has secured a €80m contract from Rondus Erste Immobilienbesitz, represented by Hines Immobilien, for the construction of a residential complex in Berlin-Schöneberg.
Under the Stadtquartier Südkreuz project, Züblin will construct 11 turnkey residential buildings with a total of 665 apartment units, an underground car park and 14,600m² of outdoor facilities at Tempelhofer Weg in the Schöneberger Linse urban development area.
Of the 665 tenant apartments in the six-to-seven-storey buildings with 58,800m² of gross floor area, 106 will be built as subsidised, affordable apartments.
Haus F will feature 213 micro-apartments for students as well as common areas on the ground floor and basement level. Haus A will include a day-care centre.
The Züblin-led works will begin in January 2019 with the handover of the building excavation. Building construction works will commence in February 2019 and will last 21 months.
An area located between Südkreuz station and Schöneberg station, Schöneberger Linse is currently being developed as an urban mixed-use development.
The contract for an office and commercial building (Contract Section 3, Haus J) at Stadtquartier Südkreuz has been awarded to Züblin by Rondus in 2018.
The company is already delivering projects such as the Axel Springer building, Allianz Campus, Wohnquartier Lindenhof or Brain Box Berlin in the greater Berlin area.
Strabag CEO Thomas Birtel said: “This latest large contract helps us to cement our position as the leading construction company in the German capital as well as our market leadership in the construction sector in Germany.”
Earlier in November 2018, Züblin won a €108m contract to design and build the Bertolt Brecht School, a cooperative school centre, in Nuremberg, Germany.
The project work commenced in November 2018 and will last until November 2021.
The cooperative school centre will include a gymnasium, a Realschule and a Mittelschule.
The BBS is a Partner School for Competitive Sports and was recognised as an Elite School for Sports (German Olympic Sports Federation) and an Elite School for Football (German Football Association).
