Spectrum Companies has broken ground on a mixed-use development on South Tryon Street at Carson Boulevard in North Carolina, US.

The five-acre South End development, which will help link Uptown and South End, will include two 11-storey office buildings, an expansive urban park with event space, restaurants, shopping, and a 200-room boutique hotel.

Located one block from the Carson light rail stop in South End and two blocks from Uptown, the development offers easy access to light rail and highways and will be anchored by LendingTree, an online lending marketplace.

LendingTree will move its headquarters into 175,000ft² in the first office building, which is due for completion in January 2021.

Spectrum CEO Darryl Dewberry said: “We’re happy to welcome LendingTree as an anchor for this transformative development.

“The project will play a significant role in linking Uptown and South End – two of Charlotte’s most dynamic neighborhoods – and will create a premiere lifestyle destination for Charlotte residents and visitors alike.”

Spectrum said that construction on the luxury hotel is scheduled to commence next summer and be completed in late 2021.

Spectrum chief operating officer Steve McClure said: “Over the past decade, South End and Uptown have evolved into two distinct destinations for business, culture and entertainment.

“This project will seamlessly merge those pursuits and become a destination of its own.”

With combined office space of 577,000ft², the two buildings will help meet the growing demand for offices just outside of Uptown.

The development is said to be the first venture between Spectrum and Invesco Real Estate, a real estate investment management firm.

Dewberry earlier said: “This project will have a South End vibe with collaborative work spaces, outdoor terraces and destination retail, while also offering the Class A office space and amenities you expect Uptown.

“This office community will connect two of Charlotte’s most vibrant areas. It will transform the leading edge of South End and reflect its eclectic character.”
