Shui On Building Contractors, a construction arm of SOCAM Development, has signed a HKD580m ($74.2m) contract to build public rental housing premises at Fung Shing Street in Wong Tai Sin, Hong Kong.

Commissioned by the Hong Kong Housing Authority, the project comprises the construction of a 36-floor residential building offering a total of 754 flats.

It also includes the construction of an early education and training centre, a day-care centre for the elderly, a special child care centre and other related ancillary facilities.

Work on the project is expected to be completed in 2019.

In a bid to meet its goal of constructing 200,000 public housing flats and 80,000 subsidised sales units within 10 years, the HKSAR government is committed to increasing housing supply and opening up more land.

Along with the Fung Shing Street Public Housing Development project, SOCAM’s current construction contracts will offer approximately 7,100 public housing flats and subsidised sale units upon completion.
