Swedish construction firm Skanska has secured a £60M contract to build a new healthcare research facility for Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, UK.

The Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Diseases in Children — the third phase of the redevelopment of the hospital — will support new treatments and cures for children with rare diseases.

Under the contract, Skanska will be responsible for the design, construction and mechanical and electrical fit-out of the facility.

The new building will be operated by Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, University College London and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

Construction work is expected to commence in January 2017 and be completed in late 2018.
