Skanska USA has completed construction work on the $118.5m Choctawhatchee Bay Bridge (US 331) project in Walton County, Florida.

The project, commissioned by the Florida Department of Transportation, included construction of a 12,000ft-long two-lane bridge as well as construction of a fishing pier, boat ramps, docks, and a public park. Fender system replacement and associated road work were also carried out as part of the project.

The original Clyde B. Wells Bridge will now be responsible for southbound traffic.

Skanska vice president of Florida operations Jim Goyer said: “Our team worked with the utmost care to rebuild the US 331 bridge over Choctawhatchee Bay while taking the necessary measures to protect the marine life underneath the bridge structure.

“The reconstruction of the bridge expands the number of north and southbound lanes, providing better access, improving mobility and creating a safer driving experience for the local community.”
