SBE plans to build new $72m hotel in Detroit, US


International hospitality group SBE has announced plans to build its first hotel in Detroit, US with an investment of $72m.

The new hotel, Temple Detroit, forms part of SBE's House of Originals hotel brand and is being developed in collaboration with Byzantine and its partners Christos Moisides, David Sutherland and Gretchen Carhartt Valade.

The eight-storey Temple Detroit property is being built in Cass Corridor, which is currently under transition as part of Detroit's revival.

Planned to be opened in June 2020, the hotel will comprise 100 hotel rooms and 70 residential units as well as a SBE restaurant and mixology/nightclub venues.

Additionally, the hotel amenities include the rooftop pool and lounge, which will offer skyline views of Detroit and a luxurious full-service spa. It also comprises indoor and outdoor event spaces.

Architecture firm McIntosh Poris Associates, alongside Kravitz Design, Lenny Kravitz' interior design company will be responsible for designing the new project.

SBE founder and CEO Sam Nazarian said: "I am very proud to announce our first House of Originals deal in Detroit and also proud to be working with incredible entrepreneur, Christos Moisides and his partners David Sutherland and Philanthropist and retired Carhartt Chairwoman, Gretchen C. Valade."

The 190,000ft² property is the first development of seven planned projects of SBE to be announced in near future.

SBE said: "The House of Originals is a collection of luxury hotels that are individually special to the city in which each resides."

SBE's House of Originals brand collection also includes the Sanderson and St Martins Lane in London, 10 Karakoy in Istanbul, and the Shore Club in Miami Beach.

By 2021, SBE aims to have 50 hotels nationally and internationally.
