San Miguel Brewery, a joint venture of San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and Kirin Holdings Company, has unveiled plan to construct a $150m brewery in Los Angeles, California.
The new facility, which will represent San Miguel’s first facility in the US, will have a capacity to produce 200m litres. The brewery will be located on a 10-hectare site.
The latest move forms part of an overall $500m production increase that includes two new 2m hectolitre breweries in the Philippines. San Miguel also plans to increase capacity at its existing plants.
Construction on the brewery will take two and a half years to complete.
SMB chairman Ramon Ang said: "The reason we are going to build a brewery in the US is because the volume of exports today in America can now warrant us to put up the brewery to support that volume."
The company plans to construct two new breweries in Cagayan de Oro and Iloiloin the Philippines.
